Flu Vaccinations

Why Should You Get a Flu Vaccine?
- Prevent death from the flu– 36,000 people die each year from the flu or complications from the flu.
- Avoid lost time at work– the average sick time from the flu is from 3-14 days.
- Stop the spread of the flu– one person can infect up to 42 others with the flu.
Who Should Get a Flu Vaccine?
Any person, including school-aged children, who wishes to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill or of transmitting the flu to others. For CDC Recommendations, please visit: www.cdc.gov/flu.
What is FluMist?
FluMist contains weakened versions of the flu virus and has been approved for use over the last 5 flu seasons.
Unlike the traditional vaccine, which is given as a shot, FluMist is sprayed into the nostrils, right where the flu enters the body. This is designed to help stimulate the body's natural defense pathways without causing disease.
Flumist is also thimerosal free and contains no preservatives.
Is FluMist Right for You?
FluMist is indicated for healthy children, adolescents, and adults 2-49 years of age. For more information, please visit: www.flumist.com.
What is High Dose?
Introduced for the 2010 flu season, High Dose is a new influenza vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years and older. The vaccine contains 4 times the amount of antigen in regular flu shots, creating a stronger immune response. This extra immunity is important for senior adults, who are more inclined to contract the flu and suffer disproportionately from influenza and its complications. Find our more about the Fluzone High Dose on the FDA website.
High Dose flu shots are offered at all of our offices and flu clinics. However, if you will be using Medicare Part B, you must get the High Dose shot at our Pensacola office or a flu clinic.
